History Of Ghanche
The history of Ghanche District is deeply connected with the ancient civilization of Baltistan and the historic trade routes linking Tibet, Central Asia, and South Asia. For centuries, the region remained under the rule of local Balti rajas and became an important cultural center in the Karakoram Mountains.
Khaplu served as the historical capital of Ghanche and is home to the iconic Khaplu Palace, a centuries-old royal palace that reflects traditional Balti and Tibetan architecture. Buddhism existed in the region before Islam spread through Sufi saints during the 14th century, shaping the culture and traditions seen today.
